District Governor Karl Gude’s Page:
Fellow Lions,
As I look back at the last two and a half weeks- WOW! DGE School was fantastic! As I have said before; it’s not
what we learn it’s who we learn with. I must say that MD 22 leadership is second to none; all five of us were so well
prepared.
The Convention and Australia were just awesome and having Anne installed by PIP Clem was just the icing on the
cake.
A Big Lions’ roar to IPDG Lee for the great job he did last year. We have a district with 74 more hands to serve, 37
new Ideas and friends. Also thanks to PCS Carol, PCT Dick and now FVDG Mike for all of your many hours of
service and hard work in “growing the service”. Thank you to Lee and Anita for all of your help but most of all, for
your friendship.
Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. IP Sid Suggs’ programs are very simple- just a recommitment to
serve. We as Lions are Beacons of Hope for the world to see so let’s let that light shine bright.
My theme this year is: a Candle of Tradition- a Lantern of Change- a Light of Service. We cannot forget where
we came from, but we must change if we hope to grow and let’s all shine a light on what
we as Lions do. So my challenge for each and every Lion in District 22-D is if we all just find one new way to serve,
that’s 1347 new ways to help those we serve. Take a person to the doctors, help a child, clean up a park, give of
your time to feed the hungry- just a few examples of how we can serve. I know we all have more ideas, and if we do
this with the other 1,300,000 Lions- what an impact!
IP Sid has four areas for us to move forward. In August we will focus on Youthstart a new program, expand an
existing one. In October, focus on a vision project. December and January feed the hungry. We all do a great job
during the Holidays; let’s carry it into January and beyond. Then we will look at ways to improve and save our planet
in April.
To do all this, what do we need? More hands. Last year we as a district did a GREAT job of bringing in new Lions,
and we must continue that growth. We all know what to do: ask and ask again. If you did not sponsor a new member
last year, there’s always this year; for those who did, let’s do it again. If we shine a light on what we do, who would
not want to be a LION, so let’s toot our own horn. IP Sid has challenged
all the Governors to be plus one on September 30, 2010. I have accepted that challenge and I in turn challenge you
to make each club a plus one. I know we can do it because we are 22D.
I promise you that I will be there at your side.
